SWIMMING

To fulfil our vision and aims in sport and PE, we supplement our PE curriculum and school funding with Government funding through Sports Premium.

Swimming has now recommenced following the pandemic but we are currently focussing on catching up our Y5 & Y6 children who were unable to have lessons during that period.  Once they all reach the national standard of 25m unaided, we will start swimming lessons with our Y4 children again.

Lessons are taught at a local pool by trained swimming teachers, supported by members of the school support staff. We strongly encourage your child to take part as this is part of the National Curriculum as seen below:

Swimming and water safety

All schools must provide swimming instruction either in key stage 1 or key stage 2.

In particular, pupils should be taught to:

- swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres

- use a range of strokes effectively [for example, front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke]

- perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.

NOTE: We also take part in a competitive KS2 swimming gala each year.
